Exploring is a process, and students have University Advising as a partner throughout that process. If you’re a current Exploratory Preference or Exploring Business Preference student, you’ll work with University Advising until about 56 credits, usually across your first two years. When you're ready to declare a major (or reach the credit limit), your Exploratory Advisor will help you map a clear path into a degree granting program.
Find resources, information and support tools for current exploring students—from academic interest areas, advising support, and connections for exploring Spartans.
Exploratory Advisors are the go-to guides for figuring out your academic path at MSU. They work one-on-one with students who are still deciding on a major or just want to explore options, as well as being the major advisors for the Exploratory Preference and Exploring Business Preference majors.
Whether you’re just starting at MSU, or you want to take a moment to recalibrate, exploring is a journey that looks different for everyone. University Advising is here to provide some wayfinding on your unique journey.
As an exploring student, you’ll be spending time asking questions, thinking about what to do next, and connecting with resources to guide you on your pathway to a major and college.
New Exploratory Preference (EXP) or Exploring Business Preference (EBP) students are invited to an engaging, interactive colloquium hosted by University Advising each August.
