SPARTANS WILL|© Michigan State University|

At our core , University Advising exists to partner with all Spartans in a shared journey of discovery and growth that is authentic, meaningful, and tailored. Our mission is to deliver opportunities that support and enhance your natural and learned abilities in your pursuit of purpose, passion, and skills.

University Advising provides personalized exploratory advising for undergraduate students, along with training and development for the MSU academic advising community. Using an appreciative approach, we offer tailored services to ensure that both individual and group needs are addressed, fostering a culture of thriving students and advising professionals.

As a result of our work, students and advisors are better prepared for academic and professional success, equipped with a roadmap to meet their goals, and empowered to make informed decisions about their future.

University Advising also plays a critical role in improving retention rates and ensuring that students not only graduate but they do so with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their careers, while advisors grow and advance within the advising profession.

University Advising predominantly serves students in the Exploratory Preference (EXP) and Exploring Business Preference (EBP) majors, though we support any undergraduate student exploring majors, minors, or university resources.

We believe intelligence, abilities, and talents can be developed through dedication, effort, and a willingness to learn. We see challenges as opportunities to learn and grow, not obstacles to avoid. We encourage effort to move from learning to mastery, respond to setbacks with persistence, provide and receive constructive criticism to improve skills, and draw inspiration from the success of others as a source of motivation and learning.
