Josh Herrin (he/him) is an Academic Advisor on the Exploratory Health Sciences Team for University Advising. Since coming to MSU in 2015, he has worn many hats within the University, including graduate student, instructor, researcher, tech support, and academic advisor. Before University Advising, he was the advisor for students pursuing one of the ten minor programs in the Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures. In his free time, he likes to go on long walks while listening to audiobooks.
Learning how to navigate the university system can be intimidating and confusing. I like helping students make the best of their college experience by providing them with guidance and a clearer picture of how to get through all the twists and turns.
My favorite place on campus is Wells Hall. I spent most of my time as a graduate student in the B-Wing of Wells, so it was the central hub my MSU experience for a long time.
You don’t need to know exactly what you want to do with the rest of your life right out of high school. College is your best opportunity to explore what’s out there and find where your interests lie. You may change your mind a couple of times, and that’s fine.
In 2013, I got my B.A. in English and French, with a minor in German from the School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University Indianapolis. My time at MSU began in 2015 when I started the graduate Linguistics program, earned an M.A. in Linguistics in 2017, and pursued the Linguistics Ph.D. from 2017-2023.
