Spring 2025 Important Advising Information

Welcome back Spartans!

We hope your spring semester 2025 (SS25) is starting well. You are receiving this email because you are a University Advising student with a declared major in an Exploratory Preference or Exploring Business Preference. 

We want to make you aware of the various ways to meet with your University Advising Academic Advisors for SS25:

Week 1 of Classes (Monday, January 13 – Friday, January 17)

  • Advising Type: Drop-in Advising (In-Person Only)
  • Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Locations:
    • Brody Hall - Room 160
    • Holden Hall - Engagement Center
    • Hubbard Hall – Engagement Center
    • McDonel Hall – Engagement Center
    • MSU Union - Ground Level - Room 28

All Semester (Monday, January 13 – Friday, May 2)

  • Advising Type: Express Advising Online (Zoom) 
     
    • Time: Monday – Friday, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. (all semester)
    • Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. (January 13 – 31, March 17 – April 18, May 6 & 7)
    • Location: Express advising allows for 15–20-minute advising. Use this link to add your name to the advising queue during the above days/times: University Advising Express Advising Form. Save the link to your browser for future use.
  • Advising Type: 1-on-1 Advising Appointments (virtual or in-person) 
     
    • Time: Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    • Location: We have advisors distributed around campus. Schedule a 30-minute advising appointment via student.msu.edu.
  • Advising Type: Exploring Business Preference Drop-in Advising (in-person and virtual) 
     
    • Time & Location: Tuesdays, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. (Union, Ground Level – Room 28)
    • Fridays, 9 a.m. – noon (McDonel Hall Engagement Center)
    • Zoom Link: https://msu.zoom.us/j/6117636216 – Students will enter the zoom waiting room space and be pulled into a private Zoom meeting room by the next available advisor.

REMINDER: For most classes, the last day to add or switch courses for the SS25 is Friday, January 17. You are strongly encouraged to consult an advisor before dropping/adding/swapping classes. Your University Advising Academic Advisor can assist you in finding late start courses too.

Major Spotlight

Do you need help with a college admissions process? Are you still trying to identify your desired major, or do you have some questions? If so, you should attend our University Advising Major Spotlight. 
Major Spotlight is a program for exploratory preference and exploring business preference students from across the university to discover parallel majors that align with their interests. Save the dates and come meet advisors from different majors across campus.

Major Spotlight will be hosted in the STEM Building from 10 a.m. – noon and 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.:  
 

  • Feb 4: Business & Innovation (Food Industry Management, Human Resources and Labor Relations, GEO, and other majors)
  • Feb 11: PACES (Journalism, Sociology, Social Work, Communication, and other majors) 
  • Feb 18: STEM/Agriculture/Environment & Health Sciences (Packaging, Economics, Food Science, and other majors)
