From Vision to Infrastructure: Our Growth Since 2023

Since we began in 2023, UAARE has continued to grow and evolve in response to the needs of academic advisors and the university community. What started as a focus on individual training opportunities has expanded into a broader learning infrastructure that supports professional development, collaboration, resources, and communities of practice across MSU.

The growth is not simply about doing more, it’s about building sustainable systems that create lasting value for advisors and, ultimately, for students.

Here’s a look at what we’ve built and how our reach and capacity have grown from 2024–2026.

What We Assess

Who participates, which units are represented, and where access or engagement gaps remain.

How Evidence Becomes Action

Our work follows a continuous cycle: we listen to the experiences and needs of advisors and students, learn from what we hear and what the data tells us, collaborate to develop meaningful solutions, innovate in our approach, and continuously improve based on what we learn.

This cycle keeps our work responsive, relevant, and focused on advancing advising excellence and student success.

What We Heard and What Changed

What We Heard	Academic advisors wanted more opportunities to connect and learn from one another.
What We Changed	We created two signature events - the Undergraduate Academic Advisor Collective and the Academic Advisor Showcase - to foster connection, learning, and collaboration by giving advisors opportunities to learn from colleagues, engage in meaningful professional learning, and build their advising networks.
What Comes Next	Exploring communities of practice and peer learning groups.
