Justine Yatska (she/they)

Originally from Arkansas, Justine Yatska is a proud first-generation college graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and a master’s degree in Liberal Arts. Their experiences as a first-generation student inspired a passion for helping others feel confident, supported, and at home in their academic journeys. Before joining Michigan State University, Justine taught composition and worked with TRIO Student Support Services, where they guided students through challenges and celebrated their growth and successes. They are dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive space where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to define success on their own terms.

What I love most about being an advisor is helping students feel connected and supported as part of a larger community. I enjoy creating spaces where students can share their experiences, explore their goals, and know that their voices matter. Advocating for students—whether it’s helping them access resources, navigate challenges, or celebrate their achievements—is incredibly rewarding. For me, the most meaningful part of this work is seeing students grow, gain confidence, and realize their potential.

The best advice I’ve gotten is to trust the process—things tend to work out, even when it doesn’t feel that way in the moment. I’ve learned that it’s okay not to have everything figured out right away. Some of the most meaningful opportunities come from trusting yourself and staying open to change.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a minor in Linguistics from the University of Central Arkansas in 2016, and then I received my Master of Liberal Arts from Arkansas Tech University in 2020.
